Sanada Yukitaka samurai miniatures – Eugenio Larosa
Sanada Yukitaka was a renowned Japanese samurai of the Sengoku period, who lived from 1512 to June 8, 1574. Throughout his life, he held the position of daimyō in Shinano, a region of Japan.
Following the invasion of the Shinano province by Takeda Shingen, Yukitaka initially found himself fighting against him. However, after a fierce struggle, he ultimately submitted to save his own clan.
During his service under Takeda Shingen, Sanada Yukitaka participated in numerous battles. These included the Battle of Odaihara in 1546, the sieges of Toishi in 1550 and 1551, the battles of Kawanakajima, and the Battle of Mikatagahara. Thanks to his courage and military skills, he gained the appreciation of Shingen and became one of his 24 generals, as well as one of his three personal advisors (Danjōchū). Together with his sons Sanada Nobutsuna and Sanada Masayuki, he fought in all the battles of Kawanakajima.
HEAVY INFANTRY UNIT
The base represents a group of samurai bearing the insignia of the Sanada clan. The flag is called “Rokurensen 六連銭” or “Rokumonsen 六文銭,” which literally means “six coins.” The term “six coins” refers to the money needed after death to cross the river that separates this world from the afterlife. It is said that the “six” derives from the Buddhist term “Rikudoh 六道” meaning the “six realms.” The Musha-bugyou, the samurai in charge of the unit, stands out from the other samurai by wearing a Sashimono called UCHIWA, which is shaped like a fan.
The miniatures are 28mm Old Glory Miniatures, with the Sashimono from Perry Miniatures. The banner (nobori) is self-made.
SKIRMISH UNIT
The second base instead represents a unit of shooters armed with Teppo. In the base we find a samurai who shoots while an ashigaru prepares the harquebuses, at his side another ashigaru shoots towards the enemy. The 28mm miniatures are Perry Miniatures.
