Blackfoot Warband Wargames Foundry – Eugenio Larosa
Today, I would like to discuss Wargames Foundry, a manufacturer known for its evocative miniatures for the Wild West, despite not releasing new pieces in recent times.
One of their notable offerings is the Eagle Ribs Blackfoot Warband kit (OW078), representing a band of the Blackfoot tribe. After a considerable amount of time, I have finally completed painting all the pieces, and I am thrilled to share my experience with you.
The Blackfoot tribe was a confederation of tribes belonging to the Algonquian linguistic group. They inhabited the northern plains, spanning from the upper courses of the Missouri River to the Saskatchewan River. It is crucial to highlight the misuse of the term “Blackfoot people” in ethnographic literature when referring to the Niitsítapi Confederation, disregarding the other components such as the “Blood” and “Poor Robes.” The Niitsítapi encompass a diverse ethnic group of Native Americans with a rich history and culture worthy of exploration.
Wargames Foundry stands out not only for the high-quality mold of their 28mm miniatures but also for their unique poses and equipment. These aspects make the miniatures visually captivating and enjoyable to paint.
For the coloring of the Eagle Ribs Blackfoot Warband kit, I opted for natural colors. By utilizing these tones, the miniatures acquire an authentic feel, capturing the atmosphere and essence of the Blackfoot tribe in the Wild West. I paid particular attention to achieving the nuances and intricate details found in animal hides, using earthy shades. Careful consideration was given to selecting colors for garments and tribal ornaments, drawing inspiration from Native American traditions and color palettes.
An invaluable source of inspiration for my painting process came from photographs and artifacts preserved in museums dedicated to Native American culture. These resources provided a deeper understanding and served as references for accurately representing the Blackfoot tribe’s lifestyle and aesthetics.
